Online retailers saw an increase in sales of 18.1 percent this year during the holiday shopping, but according to Sarah Quinlan, who is the head of market insights for Mastercard Advisors, that accounts for only 11 or 12 percent of the total retail sales. Most of those sales went to local businesses. “There’s growth, don’t get me wrong,” she said, “But we still love the experience of being in store.” This is one of the biggest local business insights of the year.
