Brian at first seemed honest and above-board when I was there providing information for the death certificate of my best friend of 37 years, who had died the day before. We discussed how I had been closer to my friend than he had been to his own family, and how I had handled many of his personal affairs over the years when he was unable to because of illness. I made it clear to Brian that I was going to receive my friend's ashes. Enter the long-absent niece who, riddled with guilt, suddenly decided to step up to the plate and take over the show. I called Brian to ask about how things were going and he said he "he started the cremation yesterday and it was in process." Never once did he mention that the niece had been in that same day and already had my friend's ashes, just because she was family by blood! I don't think I need to say more.
