Horrible service. I ordered live chickens for overnight delivery. We phoned the night before delivery to let them know we were expecting them and asked them to leave them at the distribution center and contact us so that we could pick them up. This is how they are supposed to treat live animals and it is listed on the travel crate in which they were shipped. Our phone number and instructions with a huge LIVE ANIMAL note "handle with care" was on the box as well. They ignored guidelines and the mail delivery driver put them on his truck and drove them around town for hours in the heat before leaving them on our doorstep. The delivery notification stated that they were left with an individual but we were not home. The signature on the package was that of the driver. All of our chickens died in the heat because of their carelessness and the supervisor refused to take any responsibility for breaking protocol for live animal care. She told me that they were probably dead when they got them because she didn't hear them making any noise. If that was the case, she shouldn't have put them on the truck regardless. Horrible, horrible carelessness that took the life of baby chickens and there will be no repercussions because it's the US Government and we all know you "can't fight city hall". I have contacted the hatchery and they are investigating the treatment that the chicks received and plan to follow through with the case. Nothing will bring the babies back and I will never get over the way they were treated. I will never again overnight chicks and I will never use the USPS again. I will pay extra to send FedEx or UPS. Unfortunately this was not an option for these babies as I would have paid any price for their safe arrival. I've ordered from this hatchery before with no issues. This was simply an error at the distribution center for which they are taking no responsibility nor do they have any remorse. The supervisor was HORRIFICALLY rude and hung up on me when I called in distress trying to find my chicks the morning that they arrived. I had tracking information. She claims that the tracking wasn't correct and they didn't sit for hours. She did admit they shouldn't be on a truck but didn't offer any solution nor did she express that they regretted that this happened OR that they would ensure that it didn't happen again. NEVER. AGAIN. Despite several successful deliveries from a responsible hatchery, I will never trust the USPS again with ANY mail....especially THIS particular office. The supervisor should be reprimanded. Horrific experience. If I could give them ZERO stars I would. Negative ten.
